BellSouth Offering Napster With DSL

Three months of Napster's digital music subscription service and a free MP3 player await new residential customers.

Atlanta-based BellSouth announced a new promotion for customers subscribing to one of the company's FastAccess offerings for the first time. The three DSL services offered by the company will come with a MP3 player and three months of access to Napster's music service. The brand and capacity of the player has not been disclosed.

Pricing for the services range from monthly fees of $24.95 to $42.95. The top tier provides 3Mbps download/384kbps upload speeds. New customers in the top two tiers may choose between the Napster/MP3 player promo, or a free digital camera with a free Snapfish membership.

BellSouth recently simplified its pricing for broadband services. A high-speed modem costs $75, but users can get the modem free after rebate. Later in the year, the company plans to debut a 6Mbps download DSL product called FastAccess DSL Xtreme.

Pricing for the 6Mbps service has not been announced, but now that the FCC has ruled in favor of telecoms on the issue of providing third-party access to their lines, providers like BellSouth are sure to be working hard on bringing those prices down while delivering greater speeds of service to consumers.
