Best Buy To Launch Mobile Broadband Service

By Mike Sachoff

Best Buy has confirmed that it will launch a Best Buy branded mobile broadband Internet service called Best Buy Connect on July 11.

The company says its Best Buy Connect is a mobile broadband service that is different from traditional mobile broadband offerings because it addresses issues people face in mobile networking. Sprint will provide the 3G network, plans will be available with and without contracts, starting at $29.99 for 250 megabytes.

"We are building on a great brand and foundation to enable people to rely on us for one-stop shopping and support for their mobile computing experience, and our customer support continues after purchase," said Jed Stillman, vice president of Best Buy Connect.

"It is a natural addition to Best Buy's growing portfolio of private label products and services that better enable consumers to connect with the things and people they love."

When customers leave Best Buy, their connections will be activated on the laptop or notebook they have chosen from the store. Customers will receive credit for their mobile broadband service along with their in-store purchases.

Customers who purchase certain Gobi embedded laptops or notebooks from Best Buy stores in the U.S. will be able to subscribe to Best Buy Connect.
